Trucker Tim Harrison is back, years away from Webber’s first novel, Whipping Post. Having sold his old truck, he’s now a company driver for Saxon Brothers Trucking out of Dallas Texas. He’s settled down on a small ranch outside of Cave Creek Arizona. He and Rory, his dog, are assigned a route between El Paso Texas and Tijuana Mexico with a brand new truck. Life is looking up.

But Tim’s still fighting demons in his head from the rape and murder of his wife, the mother of his two children.

When a fellow Saxon Brothers trucker is murdered by a theft ring working out of El Paso, Tim’s old buddy, the colorful and head-strong JD Tolliver gets involved in hunting down the gang. In the process, JD winds up in the hospital with a bullet wound.

Now with two employees having been attacked by the same theft ring, and seemingly little interest by the police, the owner of the company, John Saxon, gets involved. He enlists Tim’s assistance, pulling Tim back into a situation Tim is not sure he wants to become involved with. He has other things on his mind, his job, his ranch, and possibly a new love interest.

Great writing. The story moved along with good details to visualize characters and actions so well. And it is clear that a good amount of research was done. And added nicely throughout the chapters.

Roll Me Away by Alan Webber is a down to earth story that takes you deep into the life of a trucker. It captures the grit and grind of life on the road, with long hours, tough conditions, and the camaraderie between truckers, all intertwined with a gripping murder mystery and a heartfelt love story. Despite the challenges, the romantic elements add a softer side, showing how this demanding lifestyle impacts relationships and the people waiting back home. It is a real and heartfelt read that gives a glimpse into a world most of us rarely consider, making it perfect for anyone who enjoys stories about resilience, love, and a touch of suspense.

Webber’s reflections on purpose, love, and self-discovery are so beautifully relatable—I felt like I was right there on the road with him, experiencing each twist and turn. This isn’t just a truckers story; it’s a reminder to embrace the unknown and find meaning along the way. Webber’s down-to-earth storytelling makes this book impossible to put down. The second of the story of Saxon Bros trucker Tim Harrison. Great read. I liked the back and forth
chapters of good guys and bad. Easy to follow and a nice storyline. Waiting for Alans next work. Hope
Tim and Saxon Bros haven’t parked their Peterbilts just yet.

Really great novel depicting the trials and tribulations of a long-haul trucker on the road. This book is
gritty and determined to put you in the driver’s seat of a big rig, seeing first hand how life on the road
can be. If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like for those asphalt cowboys, give this a read!

  13. MomB

Loved the flow of the book. Not too heavy but kept me interested all the way to the end.

Tim Harrison’s life wasn’t what he expected it to be. Dealing in the aftermath of tragedy, he’s on the
road to recovery with his sidekick and favorite dog, Rory. However, his life takes a turn when his friend,
JD Tolliver, gets involved in the death of a trucker and winds up in the hospital himself. Soon, Tim
partners with Saxon Brothers trucker business owner, John Saxon, to find the gang spreading fear and
death through their larcenous activities. Is he ready for everything he’s about to encounter?
The author, Alan N. Webber, gives us a straight-forward writing style. It’s definitely a contemporary, no
holds-barred type of dialogue and narrative that gives you the thoughts, actions, and suspense of his
characters. While I love the opening lines of this story, and the almost poetry-like wording, I find the
blunt-speak both realistic and unnerving. I would definitely add a trigger warning for anyone sensitive
to language, the political views held by the main character, or anyone uncomfortable with a storyline
    that includes rape.
The overall content of the book had several positives. This was a different storyline that hasn’t been
seen a lot: a trucker out to deal with a gang of thieves and partnering with his boss and a friend in an
unlikely trio, but the points of view, differentiation of characters, revelation of back stories, and more
help to keep you in-tune with the plot. The author is excellent at creating suspenseful scenarios and
realistic characters. The switch from first person to third person helped give different scenes a special
type of view and momentum. I loved the inclusion of Spanish, the map the author added, and actual
restaurants along El Paso, making the story feel more authentic.
For me, the ending was true to life, with a bit of redemption, forgiveness, and a bittersweet feeling.
Again, the author gives the reader a matter-of-fact writing style and detailed pictures of what’s happening to his characters. These are all the things I like the best.
To conclude, although there are many positives to this story, I wouldn’t call it my favorite read. I would
recommend it for readers who like a suspenseful action story, or someone looking to deviate from the
regular amateur-detective style, but in part because of the triggers I mentioned earlier and some of the
storytelling, I would hesitate to recommend to anyone outside of those genres. Thanks to the author
for the opportunity to read via Reedsy Discovery

“Roll Me Away” is a suspense thriller written colloquial style by Alan N Weber. For the main characters,
or band of brothers, there is Tim, a widower, who can sometimes be a bad ass or a teddy bear. He
conveniently forgot to tell his new girlfriend about his sketchy past. A Green Beret Vietnam veteran
named John. The boss’ favorite employee is named Virgil. And an Iraq veteran named JD. They chase
down the guys that murdered their friend no matter the potential self-harm. I know the life of a truck
drivers isn’t all roses and sunshine as the cliché goes. This is a good book, and I appreciated the
colloquial style writing, and the map inserts.
